The round trip between Machu Picchu and Cusco aboard the Hiram Bingham is a luxurious experience where every detail has been taken care of.

For many visitors a trip to Machu Picchu is a once in a lifetime experience. The Hiram Bingham assures a magical journey never to be forgotten The Hiram Bingham is named after the explorer who discovered the fascinating remains of the Inca citadel, Machu Picchu on July 23rd 1911.

Carriages
The carriages are painted a distinctive blue and gold while interiors are luxurious, warm and inviting with elegant decoration in the style of the 1920's Pullman trains. Each of the carriages has been furnished in polished wood and brass with large chairs and plenty of space to stretch out. As you board, the tables are exquisitely laid, ready for your meal, with gleaming crystal and polished cutlery.

On board you will be served by a team of dedicated waiters who will attend to your every need and make sure your journey is as comfortable and luxurious as you imagined.

Observation Car
At the back of the Hiram Bingham is the Observation car, offering a space in which to truly appreciate the stunning Peruvian landscape. The observation car is furnished with dark wood, polished brass and large cushioned seats.

The Observation car is the perfect place to sit, relax and watch the unfolding Peruvian landscape.

Dining & Cuisine
The dining cars offer a capacity of 42 seats each. It is here where our Maitre’d will invite you to enjoy brunch and a gastronomic dinner, specially created by our on board chef.

You will delight in the finest and freshest, regional and seasonal, ingredients, as well as a premium selection of South American wines.

As you trundle through the spectacular Peruvian countryside, in the comfort of a beautifully restored Pullman carriage, we will serve you a delicious meal from our Andean inspired menu.

In the morning, on the way towards Machu Picchu you’ll enjoy a delectable three-course brunch, complete with a refreshing sparkling wine and freshly squeezed orange juice.

In the evening, on the journey from Machu Picchu to Poroy you will be served a luxurious four-course menu, complete with Pisco Sour and Peruvian delicacies.

The bar car is the perfect place to enjoy a Pisco Sour and experience live Peruvian music courtesy of our on board band. During the journey to Machu Picchu our barman invites our passengers to learn how to make our traditional Pisco Sour. Take our secret recipe home.

Some special diets can be accommodated by the Chef. Please be sure to tell us in advance of any allergies, food related or not, so that we can do our best to make your journey with us as enjoyable as possible.

Your Journey
From Poroy, near the ancient city of Cusco, to the Lost City of Machu Picchu, a trip on the Hiram Bingham takes you across of the most beautiful and romantic scenery in Peru.

Sights as incredible as the vast agricultural terraces of Jaquijahuana, the remains of a major Inca city that was sadly destroyed during the Spanish conquest, the beautiful village of Ollantaytambo hidden in the Sacred Valley and home to the Urubamba river and an ancient temple complex called The Fortress, all await.

In the morning en route to Machu Picchu a brunch will be served as you watch the stunning landscape unfold. Upon arrival into Aguas Calientes private minibuses await passengers for the fifteen minute journey up to the citadel.

At the Machu Picchu entrance, guests can go straight into the citadel as tickets will have been pre-purchased for all guests.  A guide will escort you around the citadel in small groups, pointing out the best of the ruins and recounting the history of this Inca settlement.

Following the guided tour, guests are given the choice to wander alone through this fascinating World Heritage site, or to enjoy Afternoon Tea at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, the Orient-Express hotel located right at the entrance to the citadel.

After the day exploring the marvel of Machu Picchu, cocktails and a gourmet dinner are served on the return to Cusco.

Departure Information
Hiram Bingham departs daily, except Sundays.

Departs Cuzco Poroy Station at 9.05am
Arrives Machu Picchu at 12.25pm

Departs Machu Picchu at 5.45pm
Arrives Cuzco Poroy Station at 9.15pm

Note: Poroy Station is a 20 minute taxi ride from Cuzco. Transfers to/from Poroy Station are not included in the journey.

Additional Information
What to Wear:
Smart casual and comfortable clothes are appropriate for any of the journeys. It is suggested that passengers have bring a raincoat as well as a hat and sun block as it can become extremely hot and insect repellent. A warm coat is recommended for the return drive from Poroy Station into Cuzco.

Climate:
Machu Picchu The subtropical climate means generally mild weather; the average year-round temperature during the day is 13ºC. There are two distinct seasons - the rainy season is from November to March and brings heavy rains. The dry season from April to October brings higher temperatures.

Luggage:
There is no special coach for luggage; it is recommended that passengers bring only items which are necessary for a day trip. An elegant Hiram Bingham travel bag will be provided for our passengers.

Smoking:
Under Peruvian Law # 25357, smoking is not permitted at any time in the passenger cars. Passengers are allowed to smoke in the observation car of the Andean Explorer and the Hiram Bingham.

Altitude:
Oxygen is provided on all trains for passengers having difficulty acclimatizing to the high altitudes of some of the routes.

Heating:
The luxury service Hiram Bingham offers heating. For other train services it is recommended that you have something warm to put on as the temperature can be cold especially in the morning.

Bookings require a 15% deposit at the time of confirmation, with full balance payable 60 days prior to the departure date.

Once a booking has been made cancellation penalties apply:
More than 56 working days before train departure date: 15% cancellation penalty;
21-55 clear working days before train departure date: 30% cancellation penalty;
3-20 clear working days before train departure date: 70% cancellation penalty;
Within two days of departure or no show: 100% cancellation penalty (no refund).

Once a booking has been made and a change is required then the following administration fees apply:
More than 56 working days before departure date: One free change then 10% amendment fee;
21-55 clear working days before train departure date: 20% amendment fee;
3-20 clear working days before train departure date: 60% amendment fee;
Within two days of departure or no show: 100% amendment fee.

Administration Fees are imposed for change of passenger’s names, departure dates or compartment types.
