Ride over graceful viaducts, through galleries hewn into the sheer rock, through switch-back tunnels, along rushing mountain streams, glaciers and even an alpine garden! One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Swiss Alps; the Bernina Express passes through 55 tunnels, across 196 bridges and reach a high of 2,253 metres above sea level at Ospizio Bernina. The routing takes the train passed mighty glaciers on its descent from Chur, along a UNESCO World Heritage route between Thusis and Tirano to the swaying palms of Tirano.
