The open-air Observation Bar Car adds to the enjoyment along this beautiful route, and provides the opportunity for magnificent photographs of the scenery.

Your Journey
As the train travels from Cuzco - Puno (Lake Titicaca) it makes a gentle climb to higher and cooler altitudes. The first half of the journey is dominated by the magnificent Andean mountains which tower over the deep valleys of the meandering Huatanay River.

It then reaches the gentler, rolling Andean Plains, where vicuña and alpaca can be seen. The journey is broken by a scenic stop at La Raya, which is also the highest point on the route.

On the journey passengers are served a three course lunch in their dining car, followed by coffee served in the Observation-Bar Car.

Departure Information
April to October: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
November to March: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Departs Cuzco Wanchaq Station at 8.00am
Arrives Puno at 6.00pm

Additional Information
What to Wear:
Casual and comfortable clothes are appropriate for any of the journeys. It is suggested that passengers have bring a raincoat as well as a hat and sun block as it can become extremely hot and insect repellent. A warm coat is recommended for travel to Lake Titicaca and for the return drive from Poroy Station into Cuzco.

Climate:
The weather in Puno is mostly dry and quite cold all year round due to its geographical location in the interior of the country, and its high altitude. The average temperature is around 8ºC, with a maximum of 15ºC and a minimum of 1ºC in winter.

Luggage:
The Andean Explorer has a luggage carriage, therefore if travelling with various pieces of luggage it is recommended that customers arrive at the station one hour prior to departure in order to check in your luggage. No extra cost will be charged for your luggage on this route.

Smoking:
Under Peruvian Law # 25357, smoking is not permitted at any time in the passenger cars. Passengers are allowed to smoke in the observation car of the Andean Explorer and the Hiram Bingham.

Altitude:
Oxygen is provided on all trains for passengers having difficulty acclimatizing to the high altitudes of some of the routes.

Heating:
The Andean Explorer does not feature onboard heating. It is recommended that you have something warm to put on as the temperature can be cold especially in the morning.

Terms and Conditions
Bookings require a 15% deposit at the time of confirmation, with full balance payable 60 days prior to the departure date.

Once a booking has been made cancellation penalties apply:
More than 56 working days before train departure date: 15% cancellation penalty;
21-55 clear working days before train departure date: 30% cancellation penalty;
3-20 clear working days before train departure date: 70% cancellation penalty;
Within two days of departure or no show: 100% cancellation penalty (no refund).

Once a booking has been made and a change is required then the following administration fees apply:
More than 56 working days before departure date: One free change then 10% amendment fee;
21-55 clear working days before train departure date: 20% amendment fee;
3-20 clear working days before train departure date: 60% amendment fee;
Within two days of departure or no show: 100% amendment fee.

Administration Fees are imposed for change of passenger’s names, departure dates or compartment types.
